Myth - Don’t sit on public toilet seats

They used to think it would save you from infections- this is not true.  Hovering above the toilet seat increases the chance of urinary tract or bladder infections because your bladder doesn't empty fully.  Carry a small pack of wet wipes to wipe the seat, if you are concerned, and sit.

Myth - "Drink Less"

Avoiding drinking water makes you go more often.  Strong yellow urine irritates your bladder lining and can cause constipation.  Both of these things make you need to go more often.  If you are trying to increase your fluid intake do it very gradually, even over many months.  Remember the changes you are going to make are life long.  It is important to be realistic with what you can achieve.

Myth - “Stop start your flow.”

The practise of stopping and starting your urine flow used to be taught as a way to do pelvic floor muscle exercises. This is no longer recommended as it was found that this results in incomplete bladder emptying and an increase in the likelihood of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).
